Wrgfl 2007/08 Shield Final
Tingley Athletic 1 Wigton Moor 9
All the Wigton Moor U13 girls travelled in style via coach to Ossett Town for our Shield final at 2.30pm although we got their early to support our fellow U12 girl's team and what a day it proved.
I would like to thank Ossett Town FC and all the staff and the Wrgfl for all their hard work in providing superb facilities and assistance during the day.
The omens were good for us as our U12 girls duly dispatched Huddersfield Town 2-1 with superb passing football and strong defending but the talking point was Steve "legs" Dobson who was doing the best he could at being lineman, being distracted by the amount of wolf whistles he was receiving, obviously I couldn't see what all the fuss was about.
The first half started and it was clear that we were up for it and scored our first and vital goal with Elle-May tapping in from a superb Gabrielle corner within 5 min to settle the Wigton girl's nerves. The next 2 goals were excellent with Sam scoring both from corners with glancing headers to put the Wigton girls in command after 15min 3-0.
The 4th goal was a beauty with the impressive Sam cutting in on the left hand side to unleash a 25 yard shot that looped over the Tingley keeper for a wonder goal and a fantastic 20min hat-trick.
In between the next 2 goals scored by Olivia and Sharne, Tingley did score a consolation goal but we were very impressive in the first half using the width of the pitch and our movement was sublime at times particularly from Gabrielle's superb corners, we also had a Jodie effort ruled out for offside but we went in at half time with a commanding lead and one hand on the trophy. HT 6-1

First Half Summary: A commanding first half performance playing superb pass and move football often at pace, you listened to instructions regarding using the width of the massive pitch and your movement at corners was excellent often creating space to score, your positioning sense was also excellent considering the pitch was dry and hard and having to watch the bounce of the ball, we also wanted the ball and went looking for it often winning the ball particularly in midfield but the most pleasing attribute was we worked as a team often supporting each other which sometimes has been lacking in our matches this season so very well done.
The second half started very much like the first although it took us sometime to score our 7th goal due to offside decisions and the impressive Tingley goal keeper but it was the very impressive Sam who made the second half breakthrough collecting the ball just outside the penalty area and darting between 2 defenders to score via an angled shot that had quality written all over it.
We then had another 2 goals disallowed for offside before Elle-May scored her second and Abby completed the win firing in after the keeper had saved her initial shot to make the final score 9-1.
Both sets of girls were very tired at the end having given their all for their respective teams on a very warm day playing football on a proper full size pitch but I must give praise to the Tingley girl who impressed me immensely showing great passion & courage and not once letting their heads go down and you all played your socks off and that's a real credit to you all, your coaches and your club and many thanks to your parents and supporters who were very vocal, encouraging you all the way and clapping both teams football just how it should be!!

Second half Summary: Another superb display of passing football our movement in this half was excellent too, our midfield looked a little tired at times although this was to be expected with the size of the pitch and the humid conditions and we allowed the ball to bounce more in this half rather than heading it although I can't be too critical as we headed the ball more in this game then in our previous 2 games put together but overall girls I was very proud of your performance today, it shows me that you listen to instructions and you have the football knowledge to improvise when needed and that's a real credit to you all. Congratulations!!
