We have been placed in the First Division and so there will be no easy games but we still have a great chance!!! Look on www.wrgfl.co.uk website if you want to see who we will be playing but there's no real surprise!! Follow Results/tables link, then enter Full Time site, change date to 2010/2011 and age to under 14 division 1.

Some important information for you,

Thursday 12th August- training as usual and last chance to hand in Wigton forms and subs payments before deadline, after this they will need to be sent to me.

NO TRAINING on 19th or 26th August, but keep yourselves fit- I've just seen in Denmark what a difference being able to keep running throughout a whole game can make!

Thursday 2nd September- Friendly game against Tingley where we always play them now. 6:00pm meet for a 6:30 start. 11-a-side if enough girls are there.

Saturday 4th/Sunday 5th September- possible friendly against Crossley Belles, will confirm with time and venue later.

Tuesday 7th September- friendly against Wigton Moor Under 13s at Wigton. Meet around 5:30/6:00 although exact time to be confirmed.

Thursday 9th September- final training session before the start of the season at the slightly earlier time of 6:30 now that the nights are drawing in!. Full attendance if possible please!

Saturday 11th/Sunday 12th- first game of the new season. Fixtures will be announced on WRGFL website at the start of September.

There are 12 teams at under 14 this year, and the format will be officially 9-a-side. It will probably be a single league of 12 teams giving us 22 league games as well as the cup, and we also have the 11-a-side Under 14 County Cup this season too.

New shirt sponsor

Our new blue home shirt has been ordered for next season, now that a sponsor has been secured. Our new shirt will carry the logo of Yorkshire Air Ambulance. We have not received sponsorship directly from them, but from the director of a company who was himself rescued by the service after a para-gliding accident. The company is Primary ICT Support, a primary school IT technical support and website development company based in South Leeds. Keep your eyes out for a possible high profile launch once the new kit arrives- could include a helicopter!!

Tournaments and friendlies

Thank you to everyone who has taken part in the various tournaments and galas this summer. We have done a good job at all of them and kept ourselves fitter at the same time. We have a friendly arranged against Bingley on Sunday 11th which is certain to be a very difficult game. They came second in the 7 a side league and won the 7 a side cup so it will certainly be a tough test. There are no more friendlies planned yet until the weekend of September 4th/5th when we hope to play Crossley Juniors. The season starts on the weekend of 11th/12th September.

Summer training

I intend to continue with training through the summer as much as possible. I am very impressed by the girls' attitude towards our new coach James who has been with us a few weeks now. He is equally impressed with the talent of our girls and is looking forward to  seeing his work paying off in matches next season. There is no training on 8th July, but currently 15th and 22nd are currently on. The week after me and James are in Denmark at a tournament with Lydia's sister, Grace's, team so no training then. Back on for 5th and 12th August, but then a break until 2nd September when we prepare for the new season.

Home Shirt Sponsor required for 2010/2011 Print E-mail

We are due to receive a new blue HOME kit as we move into the new season. Wigton Moor FC are providing half the cost for the kit, and we now need to find someone to sponsor the other half. I think it costs between £200 and £250 depending on how much printing we get on it. We also need to buy a new number 2 purple shirt to replace Issy's now she has retired- hopefully with a new players surname on it!!!

The girls in the team would all appreciate it if parents could explore the possibility of finding a sponsor who will provide the necessary funds, and in return get to have their company logo splashed across the shirts of a brilliant football team. Alternatively if we can raise the said amount in donations, we could do what some Football League teams have done and have the logo of a charity or something like that  on the shirts- a group who wouldn't usually be in a position to pay money to advertise this way.

I'm sure Little Legz will be able to provide some more help in the coming year, but after providing two full kits for us, it would be nice if we could find someone else to help out.

See what you can come up with and let me know as soon as you can if you are successful!!!

Thakns

Latest news for Under 13 girls Print E-mail

Monday, 12 April 2010

The Under 13 girls put in an outstanding performance on Saturday morning to force another draw with Tingley Athletic. With only 9 girls available, they all knew their jobs and were aware that there would be no changes for the whole game, and from this I think came stability and determination to do well and perform to an outstanding level- probably one of the best performances of the season.

The early signs were not good as Tingley took an early lead when Chloe's attempted clearance unluckily rebounded into the goal off a Tingley player. However, it wasn't long before Wigton were in front through goals from Nicole and Emma. Girl of the game Nicole was involved in both goals and turned in the best all round game she has for quite a long time. Georgia then went close with a long range effort that was turned around the post and Wigton continued to look strong. Megan S was assured in goal, and the back three of Megan H, Lydia and Shainah held firm in front of her, whilst Chloe and Olivia controlled midfield.

The girls fought bravely in the second half, holding out until 10 minutes from the end when Tingley equalised. After that, despite being very tired and hot the Wigton girls held firm and kept the scores level. They played their hearts out for the whole game, whilst Tingley had been able to rotate a little with their two substitutes, but the result was a fair one. The game was played in excellent spirit and was a really good close contest.
